LIÈGE – FEDIM / some highlights:

I think that this process of preparation for the World Social Forum and all this mobilization has an important role in the current political situation, both at national and global levels, in the sense of increasingly mobilizing people and trying to put the current reality of them for them, world in crisis, and Brazil as well, of all this setback situation that we live in the country.

I think that we have to think about this process towards Mexico in order to carry out activities that have this international and global character of mobilization in the face of the current situation, so that we can face imperialism, so that we can face the setback, so that we can face the fundamentalisms and issues of conservative actions that are spread throughout this world.

It is important that the CI (International Council) itself and the next Forum also define some date of articulation of world mobilization with specific flags with definitions of what struggles, how to face imperialism, how to face fundamentalisms, conservative forces, so that people can actually do moving forward, that is, today the moment also requires us to raise the issue of democracy, peace and the fight against imperialism, which are central issues, and also, for example, in the case of Brazil, the guarantee of rights.

It is essential that there is this meeting (of the expanded CI) that is being proposed for May or June so that in fact we can have a Forum in which the CI plays a factual and legal role; because that last meeting was very empty and we need, to face the challenges, to make the CI also assume the responsibility that concerns it, so that we can have a World Social Forum in Mexico victorious.

FEDIM is an international organization and I think that if we have some level of communication from the Forum itself on how we can guarantee the mobilization of representations, we will do that. We have participated in the organization in Mexico. This is an important form of contribution. And worldwide, we can publicize the results of this Forum, as well as the call for the Forum itself.

PIERRE – Cáritas / some highlights:

It has no quick fixes. The WSF process is a long-term bet, based on counter-hegemonic identities against neoliberalism, with voluntary participation, self-organization and intercommunication between the participants.

The Forum in January 2021 in Mexico will appear as a renewed and relevant tool. And this will feed the hope of those who work in the resistance and for another possible world, with new forms of participation.

Self-organized content in activities, assemblies and initiatives must reflect, without any filter, the politicization of its participants - movements, organizations - who are the political actors of the WSF.

Much of the visibility of the Mexico Forum will depend - in addition to the opposition to Davos - on the concentrated presence of strong coalitions, on the diversity of actors, and also on a calendar of the future (“Ágora do Futuro”) with campaigns and struggle initiatives.

The perspective we propose is to promote an open horizontal space with all participations in accordance with the Charter of Principles of the WSF, forming coalitions around concrete initiatives with public actions.

Participants in the process of building the WSF of Mexico must take ownership of the methodologies in advance to propose concrete initiatives, as is already occurring in the processes of the Panamazonic Forum (March 2020, Colombia) and the Forum of Transforming Economies (June 2020, Barcelona).

The International Caritas Confederation (195 national Caritas) has participated in the WSF IC since the beginning. Caritas France and Caritas Brazil have been the most active in this process, mainly around the themes of migration and the solidarity economy.

EXTENSION / CONFORMATION ASSEMBLY OF THE FSM FACILITATOR COLLECTIVE MEXICO (January 2021)

Saturday, March 14, 2020

10:00 –17: 30 hrs

ANNOUNCEMENT

To all social organizations and movements in Mexico,

To the civil society in general of our country,

Since its creation in January 2001 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, The World Social Forum has become the largest space for global convergence of a great diversity and organizations and social movements of the entire planet in search of construction of background, local and local alternatives. global, under the motto of “Another World Is Possible”.

Emerged as a social alternative from below in front of the powerful from above gathered at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the WSF took such force that it “became independent” from the appointments of the powerful and has been carried out in different dates and in different regions of the world both in America and in Africa and Asia, with the participation of tens of thousands of people from all continents and hundreds of simultaneous activities of the most diverse social causes in each edition.

The next January 2021 the WSF will turn 20 years old. It will coincide with a moment in which the world is experiencing a new wave of ascents of the neo-liberal right, even fascist, of coup d'etats, attacks on the rights and living conditions of the peoples, of wars and violence, of femicide, of destruction of life on the planet. And, with the exception of some exemplary popular struggles in some countries and booming movements such as women, it finds on the left and the social movements in a great dispersion, and consequently to many international networks and to the FSM itself with um important wear.

Therefore, The 20th Anniversary of the WSF represents again a great opportunity to provide a meeting space that helps to reverse this course in favor of the peoples. And the WSF International Council has resolved in its last meeting in Porto Alegre that the best place today for this reunion and to celebrate its 20th Anniversary is Mexico.

That represents a great challenge for Mexican organizations. In the first place, because of the dimensions of the forum, but mainly because the WSF in Mexico is called to provide an effective space for the international rearticulation of social movements to deal with global alliances, strategies and actions the calamities that plague the world. And because it should also serve to strengthen the social subject in our country to face the enormous challenges that are presented to us.

A group of organizations have long been working on the promotion and preparation of a possible WSF in Mexico. Today that the IC has confirmed that it will take place in Mexico and that it will be on dates coinciding with the 20th Anniversary of the WSF and again with the completion of the Davos Forum, that is at the end of January and possibly beginning of February 2021, it turns out It is essential that the organizations and social movements of the country in the widest possible way join this enormous task and responsibility.
